Busy Sewing Again

Smoke is coming outta the Craft Cave!  I've found a new fabric at Haberman Fabrics that I just love.  The Sweat Shop is in full gear, cranking out a new item.  Look for pictures and maybe a tutorial in the coming days.

I'm cutting out fabric for a new quilt too.  This quilt is so cute and looks so fast and easy -- great combination.  Stay tuned for updates on that too!

Special Anniversary

Today is the 40th anniversary of my sister Renee's wedding to my brother-in-law Tim.  I was only 12 when they were married but I do remember all of the hoopla and how they flew off to Hawaii for a nearly two year honeymoon as Tim was in the U.S. Army, stationed at Schofield Barracks on Oahu.  Tough way to start a marriage, eh?!

Renee and Tim's three children threw a surprise anniversary party for them today and invited family members from both sides.  Now I know what you're thinking -- how can it be a surprise if it's on their actual anniversary date???  Easy -- last Saturday they had a 40th anniversary mass said for them at the church where they were married and many of today's guests were there.  This was in the church bulletin for that week:

40th Wedding Anniversary of Tim & Renee Inman

I think they were totally surprised when they arrived for today's party.  Sorry for the blurry shot, best I could do:

My niece Lauren made up a nice picture board, using many of the pictures from my Mom's collection.

Here are a couple close ups of the pictures from Renee's wedding day:

And here's another picture from today:

It was a great party and we managed to get a nice shot of my sisters and me.  Notice how we all have patterned tops on???

Maybe we get our style from our Mom??!!

Good to know I can pass some tests.  You can take it for yourself here and see how much you know about choosing bobbin thread.

All Boy

I visited my daughter Holly and grandson Denver yesterday, delivering the Little Tikes picnic table I picked up in Atlanta at the Costco down there.

He did a bit of fishing with his Dad too:

 Love that curly hair!

Back from Atlanta

I returned home very early yesterday (12:45 am to be exact!) and spent most of the day recovering from the hefty drive home from Georgia.  In all, I was in 6 different states Saturday!  I went down to Atlanta last Sunday to visit my niece Carla and her family for the week.  It was so much fun.  I got to see their baby Reese in action, instead of pictures, cooked for them, had a phone interview with Ford, went on a tour of the CNN headquarters, lost power, had lunch with a former co-worker and got to experience their cabin two hours north of their home.

I even took my sewing machine with me, finishing off a few items for Reese.  This cute little dress (McCall's 6303) had matching red polka dot panties, which I forgot to photograph.

And I made these little shoes to go with it:

These shoes go with another dress and hat that I also forgot to photograph -- I'm such a putz!

Here's little Miss Reese enjoying some of her toys:

She is an amazing little girl -- doing things the doctors said she'd never do.  Even taking steps toward her momma Carla!

Gooooooo Reesie!!

Detroit Zoo

Yesterday I went to the Detroit Zoo with my roommate, courtesy of his company picnic.  I hadn't been to the zoo in 40 years.  The last time I went was with my Dad and my neighbor Keith.  The zoo had several years of decline but I can tell you it is much improved.  The day was sunny and hot (for me!) and we walked all over the place snapping pictures and seeing the sights.  I'm sharing some of the pictures I took over the next couple of days.

Can you see the turtle looking up at me???

It was very hot so the lion had no interest in showing himself.  I had to use the tilt screen on my camera, put it high over my head, and try to snap this shot.

More pictures coming tomorrow....
