If one area of your life is going well there's usually another area that is not so swell. Work is going pretty well, despite the looming theory that once we have this website where it should be we'll all be out of a job.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My home up-do is still in progress. To date I have taken 4 large garbage bags of clothing to the Salvation Army store near my house. Today's haul included over 40 t-shirts, 10 turtlenecks and a bunch of sweaters. I'm trying to envision the space my new bedroom furniture will provide and scale back to fit that need. Besides, who in their right mind needs 60 t-shirts anyway.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I type this post I'm hearing strange noises coming from my refrigerator -- pay no attention. It will go away if you ignore it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today my insert came for my new Gidget table from Leah Day -- woohoo! Wait, there's no place to set the table up yet - damn. Premature excitement.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When you're moving things around in a small house, or tiny house as my friend Sue likes to call it, it's hard to shuffle things around and stay happy. Once my new bedroom is painted properly, the electrician can come back and hang the new super-duper ceiling fan and replace the wall outlets with a clean white version. Next the furniture either needs to be delivered or I'll have to go get it - whichever is less costly and easier on me, which means I will probably pay to have it delivered from Grand Rapids. With any luck the new <a href="http://www.saatvamattress.com/saatva-mattress-reviews?boost=2&gclid=Cj0KEQjwyoCrBRCl-aa97pKX_t8BEiQAbrs_9E_LZ4OxY2yN9-lBs9af5EdMg6cblTpj2A97MoPnVhUaApNF8P8HAQ" target="_blank">Saatva</a> mattress I ordered will arrive shortly thereafter. In the meantime I will shop for new bed linens. Did you know that Costco, my favorite store in all the world, does not carry full sized sheets or mattress pads?????</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm also trying to decide if I want my floors re-done in my new bedroom. Kevin's bunk beds took a toll on the floors.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll have to think on it. Looking forward to a good night's sleep.</div>
Suzannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16945390378402207923noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3040502951020523906.post-80598642246479640432015-05-21T21:43:00.002-04:002015-05-21T21:43:56.974-04:00Still Waiting<div style="text-align: justify;">
When someone says they'll call you Monday, Tuesday at the latest, and it's Thursday and you still haven't heard from them, are you getting mad? Yep. Still haven't heard from Sewing Machines Plus about my Juki sit down quilting machine and table. Guess I'll be calling them again tomorrow. Argh!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yesterday I had a 'painter' come to the house while I worked at home, to paint my soon-to-be bedroom. It was a simple task. A small 10x10 bedroom with a bit of water staining on the window side ceiling. Ya know what? It was all downhill from there. </div>
<br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Clue #1. He did his handy work in under 3 hours. Virtually no Kilz was used, hence the water stains are showing throw the fresh ceiling paint and the old pale blue paint is peeking through the Planetary Silver. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Clue #2 He had to ask if I wanted the picture hooks removed. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Clue #3 He did not remove the cold air return vent so the old light blue paint shines through.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Clue #4 The paint on the wall near the ceiling is running in globs down the wall. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Clue #5 After begrudgingly removing the old ceiling fan he capped the wrong wires together with the light switch was on -- shorting out the whole north side of my house when I turned the breaker back on (had to call an electrician to fix that).</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If I didn't need it fixed and fixed fast I would probably cry but there's no time for crying. Bigger fish to fry. Must. Be. Fixed. Now.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My new bedroom furniture from Custom Cottage will be ready on June 6th. The painter will be returning from his vacation to Holland on June 6th, hence the need for another option. I'm hoping my friend Mary's husband can fix it or give me the name of a RELIABLE alternative.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My Mom would tell me two things at this point: 1. You get what you pay for. 2. Cut your losses.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I sure miss her, she would commiserate and tell me 'this too shall pass'.</div>

Last Sunday I drove to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the International Machine Quilters Association Conference. I had only learned about it the previous Thursday. I found they had sit down longarm machine quilting classes -- something I hadn't seen offered anywhere else.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I got to the Doubletree Hotel I discovered that a crowd was gathering for a Slipknot concert. They were definitely not my genre of music -- scary indeed. I had a quick dinner and escaped to my room. The conference organizers called me to say my first class on Monday would be cancelled because the teacher couldn't arrive on time -- bad weather cancelled her flight. Argh!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I made the best of it by traveling to a couple of quilt shops in the area. One was in LeClaire, IA and it happened to be right in front of American Picker, the antique shop that's on TV. They were filming so I couldn't go in, pooh! I found a few things at the quilt shop though, had lunch and then headed back toward Cedar Rapids, to another quilt shop. Fabulous store, great employees, tried out the new Bernina Q20 -- A-M-A-Z-I-N-G machine. It has two stitch regulator sensors and it's impossible to not stitch evenly. Oh, the price including the table is a just short of $12,000 -- ouch!</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's my haul from the two shops:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9V9m_xv1gknDnaOZr0THRms5dMehJnSzXMf492fYhTnn9HjSoUN0A0ZTtkx1LRtaLwOww2RkZApgQt5nT8VV0G2CEw3540qjCdx5KXBxyAEQmWTzGpGJPUKgintfwkwdRdhylOa44lyOs/s1600/IMG_0477.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9V9m_xv1gknDnaOZr0THRms5dMehJnSzXMf492fYhTnn9HjSoUN0A0ZTtkx1LRtaLwOww2RkZApgQt5nT8VV0G2CEw3540qjCdx5KXBxyAEQmWTzGpGJPUKgintfwkwdRdhylOa44lyOs/s640/IMG_0477.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As my mother would say, no one in the world can spell anymore. Should be Royal Oak - ugh.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyT2farJsYVGuOog7DDxbWGA62DD7D3dTTpUQhff13WMEiKffm-Hj0DmpLmc0yNaqwD0UOm6DarsxfAo6C6ozb6klTkE3vhrQFgQP8M_5CvPdrRAsPsAQzdkQf2i3pzLcPytjczO4arD69/s1600/IMG_0478.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyT2farJsYVGuOog7DDxbWGA62DD7D3dTTpUQhff13WMEiKffm-Hj0DmpLmc0yNaqwD0UOm6DarsxfAo6C6ozb6klTkE3vhrQFgQP8M_5CvPdrRAsPsAQzdkQf2i3pzLcPytjczO4arD69/s640/IMG_0478.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My evening workshop was great but I didn't have time for dinner so I had grabbed another cookie at the front desk on my way to class. I met a very nice gal who was taking all of the same classes I wanted to take. It was good to meet someone with similar interests. Even our work history was similar. We've corresponded since then and I'm sure we'll meet up again.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My Tuesday morning workshop involved using rulers in machine quilting and I never would have had the confidence to use rulers had I not taken it. I ordered a bunch of rulers from AllBrands.com -- great prices!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
No update on my Juki QVP yet -- the store is supposed to call me tomorrow or Tuesday. </div>
Suzannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16945390378402207923noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3040502951020523906.post-55427590537242863032015-05-09T21:14:00.001-04:002015-05-09T21:14:19.293-04:00Still Waiting<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've yet to receive my Juki TL2200 QVP quilting machine and table. Can you envision me tapping my feet in anticipation? There is a firmware update that I've requested they make before they ship. That way I won't have to do it once it arrives.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I should be able to have my bedroom painted by the 19th and with any luck my machine will arrive shortly thereafter.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the mean time I stopped at a quilt shop today to catch the last day of their going out of business sale. I focused on acquiring more Jason Yenter solids, which I LUV, and found a backing to use on the quilt I'm going to make for my new bed, which should arrive mid-June.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And before you ask, no, I don't have a project in mind for these beauties. Yet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I had a fabulous visit with both of my children today, celebrating Mother's Day a tad early. I went to lunch with Holly and her family. My grandkids are just the best:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
See all that mess on the table behind Lilly? That never did get cleared while we were there. Oddly it seems they were short on both servers and busboys. The food was terrific and the company even better. So nice to see my little cuties!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Even though my Mother is no longer here I know she is watching over us all and approving how we've managed to go on without her. I'm trying hard to focus on all the good memories and not dwell on her absence. If you are fortunate to still have your mother with you I hope you are doing something wonderful with/for her tomorrow. And to all my friends with children - Happy Mother's Day!</div>

Back on April 14th I took the plunge and ordered a Juki TL2200 QVP sit down machine and table. I took advantage of a Spring sale but it hasn't proven to be a great experience thus far. First I checked my order's status online and all I saw was Order Approved. Really? It was supposed to be shipped by that Friday according to Nedra, who took my order on the 14th. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still no status change and then I called them.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, they were conducting a sewing test on the machine so it wouldn't be shipped until the following week.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Okay. But then on April 24th, when my status was still Order Approved, I called the store again only to discover that the table was faulty and a replacement would have to be ordered. Hmmm, you mean to tell me that you don't have more tables in stock???</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Okay. This week Antionette (yes, that's how she spells her name) called to say that they hoped to have the table shipment in by Friday. I sent her a follow-up email asking to be sure to send the updated Control Panel for this machine. By Friday I received a phone call saying, yes, the new control panel would be sent but the machine would have to be retested before shipping. The table in the meantime, would be shipped first, on a pallet, which will be dropped in my driveway sometime next week.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Okay. So I will get the table, lug it into the house, put it together (a challenge according to my Facebook friends who already received it) and the table will sit until the actual sit down machine arrives.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Any guesses on when THAT might happen?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the meantime, I'm working on updating the room that will become my bedroom. I ordered new furniture, more on that later, had the drywall repaired, electrical repaired, and now I need someone to paint it a lovely shade called Planetary Silver. Pictures to follow someday. Maybe by the end of next week.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm going to be very busy clearing out things I don't need anymore. Some things will go to Salvation Army, some to my children, and other things to garbage. Wish me luck!</div>
Suzannehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16945390378402207923noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3040502951020523906.post-43099525417036577502015-04-27T20:47:00.003-04:002015-04-27T20:47:44.977-04:006 Months<div style="text-align: justify;">
Six months ago today I was racing out to my Mom's apartment after my sister Renee was unable to reach her. It wouldn't have mattered if I was driving 100 mph, Mom was already gone.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I can't even count the number of times I've thought of my Mom, wanted to call my Mom, wanted to visit my Mom. She was my mom for 53 years. I will always keep my last birthday card from her.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm more fortunate than some, less fortunate than others. I'm not in any hurry, but I do look forward to the day when we are reunited. Oh the stories we'll share.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She'd be cheering on the Wings and the Tigers tonight. Wait, she's cheering from heaven -- they better win!</div>

My list of quilting commitments is slowly decreasing. Today I gave away a baby quilt to my boss. I think I scored a <strike>couple</strike> LOT of points, even got a hug, because I used <a href="http://www.buffalobills.com/" target="_blank">Buffalo Bills</a> football fabric as the backing. I didn't have a gift bag so this morning I thought 'hey, I've got a half yard leftover -- I'll whip up a bag'! And I did. Sometimes I'm just so thrifty! </div>
<div>
I washed the quilt last night, just in case, and I'm so glad I used two Color Catchers in the wash load. The white strips in the quilt would certainly have been pink had I not used them. Here's a picture of the sheets next to an unused white sheet:</div>

I'm getting things moved around my house in preparation of the shipment of my new Juki TL2200 QVP sit down machine. This past weekend I moved things around in Kevin's old bedroom and sorted out various sewing projects. Ugh, way too much in progress. Today while I was at work I got to thinking about that room. Hmmm, should the China cabinet really be in the living room instead of a quilting/sewing room? I've been meaning to downsize from a queen bedroom set to a twin bedroom set. After work today I headed to Art Van in Royal Oak but the bedroom set I want won't be available until mid May. Can I wait that long???? Maybe I'll move into the smaller bedroom and use the bigger room for my quilting/sewing room........</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once I got home I decided it was not appropriate for my Mom's China cabinet to be in my sewing room so I moved it out to the Living Room, moving the bookcase in its spot into the sewing room.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7C5v_4UoDWCMyJJzg2MECNBsUz5pzRawN_Iq10YxccOQU4TSZ98cmMufw210CNczf3kWkVvXu7100iwZcH6oazCYQL0vtg_jG0HU9Xl-kS3HfPS6xELrfiG_q2haw_ljE0jdMTxxKS41O/s1600/0422152037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7C5v_4UoDWCMyJJzg2MECNBsUz5pzRawN_Iq10YxccOQU4TSZ98cmMufw210CNczf3kWkVvXu7100iwZcH6oazCYQL0vtg_jG0HU9Xl-kS3HfPS6xELrfiG_q2haw_ljE0jdMTxxKS41O/s1600/0422152037.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I feel like it has assumed its rightful place in my home. I have sooooooo many books. My large bookcase in the hallway may be finding a new home shortly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
In the meantime, I finished sewing the binding onto the quilt for my boss, who's expecting his first child in June. We're having a shower for him on Friday and I am actually ahead of schedule -- whoohoo! I will launder the quilt tomorrow with a Color Catcher for sure -- there's too much red to wash without them!</div>

My day began with my former roommate coming over to take some of his old things from my house to the recycling center -- thank goodness! Now I can start moving things around his old bedroom so I can make room for my NEW JUKI TL2200 QVP sit down machine, which should be arriving by next Friday. Woohoo!! Much more to come on this new addition to my quilting arsenal. I. Can. Not. Wait.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My friend Mary called to see if I wanted to go to a quilt show today. Hmm....keep cleaning? Go to a quilt show? Of course I said yes. My friend Sue sent me a text message a bit later about the same show. The three of us went but each was underwhelmed by the quilts - too bad. I didn't take any pictures - I think there were only two or three worthy of remembering. It's sad because this guild used to put on a better show back in the day. </div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I didn't buy much from vendors either. I was able to find the paper piecing pattern that Maggie chewed up last month, damn dog. I found several things at another vendor, including a kit for a lap quilt including the pattern book for a mere $49.99, marked down from $129.99. I also bought a foldable fan, a cute ladybug scissor/pin/bobbin holder, and a Moda Bump to Baby jelly roll for $24.99.<br />
<br />
Now I'm back to cleaning up Kevin's old room. Sorry to say he never was a tidy guy and there is so much dust it's choking my vacuum!</div>

A local quilt shop, Kindred Spirits, announced last week that they were closing for personal reasons. They opened just last Summer and had become one of my favorite shops -- so many bright, fresh fabrics. It's always sad to see a shop close, even if it means good savings to shoppers. I went out there last Saturday with my friend Sue. It was a bit odd because when we walked in they put our names on a list for cutting fabric. I've never had that happen before but it worked to keep order with all the shoppers. Maybe taking a number would have been better, like JoAnn's. In the end I had to wait for the employee to finish cutting Sue's haul before mine where in reality, they should have had a different employee cutting my bolts at the same time. Oh well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I found a lot of fabric I liked. Truthfully, there was probably other fabrics I would have bought but the bolts were in other shoppers' stacks and I missed them! Never fear, I found a lot of great fabric:</div>

I mentioned the other week that the photos I took with my new Canon camera at the quilt show in Chicago left me feeling rather dejected. I haven't figured out what I did wrong yet but I have a few ideas. I was carrying the sling bag for the camera, my cross body purse and a very heavy tote on my shoulder containing several books and fabric. My guess is I was moving too much to take a good photo while trying to balance all those bags. Lesson learned. A tripod would have been very helpful but not very convenient in a show of that size with all those people. Back to the drawing board.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm taking a photography seminar next week and I hope to be able to get some answers from the professionals. In the meantime, here are some of the better photos and a few not-so-good ones.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the main exhibits for the show was a large Red & White display. They were beautiful and made me even sorrier that I missed the original showing in New York City a few years ago. Besides the large hanging quilts there was a grouping in the center of four sections of miniature quilts.</div>

Earlier this month, local machine quilter <a href="http://www.thequiltedgoose.com/" target="_blank">Linda Thielfoldt</a> was our speaker at our GLHQ meeting. Our scheduled speaker backed out and Linda was kind enough to put a lecture together. Linda is a much-awarded quilter and she brought many of her quilts to share with us.</div>

These photos were shot using the Auto setting on my Canon EOS 70D and they turned out pretty well. Yesterday I went to the IQF in Chicago and I am very disappointed in the photos I took there. I used the Program setting and <u>many</u> of those photos are out of focus. Darn. The handful that turned out well will be posted in the coming days. Back to the drawing board with my camera. I think that carrying several bags on my shoulder contributed to me not being still enough to take a quality picture. I better keep practicing.</div>

This was the first time I had I entered any quilts I had made in any quilt show but decided I finally would get up the gumption. It was great to see them hanging and I even heard some nice compliments from visitors to the show about a couple of them.<br />
<br />
Here are two of them:<br />

These are probably the last pictures I'll post from my Samsung camera. Loving my new Canon and it will go with me whenever I want to take 'good' pictures.</div>

My birthday is tomorrow but I started celebrating Friday with dinner out with my friend Sue. We had delicious Italian food at <a href="http://www.trattoriapizzeriadaluigi.com/" target="_blank">Trattoria da Luigi</a> here in Royal Oak -- mmmmm. Sue gifted me with two new pair of scissors from <a href="http://merchantandmills.com/" target="_blank">Merchant & Mills</a> along with coil-less pins -- looking for to using all of it soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yesterday I had dinner with my son, using my free birthday dinner certificate at <a href="http://www.lockhartsbbq.com/" target="_blank">Lockhart's Barbecue</a> -- mmmm, mmmm good.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've been reading up on my new camera, a <a href="http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_70d" target="_blank">Canon EOS 70D</a>, and played around a bit with the default auto focus setting. There is so much to learn about this camera. One really cool feature is that you can load the Canon app onto your smartphone, set up the WiFi on the camera, and actually take a picture using the camera by clicking on the app -- crazy!!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today I had lunch with Holly's family at the Rain Forest Cafe. My grandson is still not too sure about the motorized alligator or even the 'thunderstorms' that occur every 20 minutes there. We all had a super time, though he did have a meltdown when he didn't get to take home every toy he picked up in their store. Hard lessons to learn at age 3 1/2.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I got a few nice pictures in my first outing with my camera. Makes me want to just click away.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

My Mom was always the family photographer. She adored taking pictures, going back to the Polaroid days. I am really missing her on this first birthday without her. She would love my new camera and the fine pictures it takes. I miss sharing all this with her.</div>

Today was the first day of the show and by all accounts attendance was great, visitors were loving the show and vendors, and I can't wait to see it all tomorrow.<br />
<br />
If you live anywhere near Detroit please take a couple hours out of your Saturday and make the trek out to see a wonderful quilt show. And if you come, please seek me out and say hello. I'll be manning various roles, helping with the vendors and tabulating the Viewers' Choice Award, given out at 4 pm!<br />

I'm battling some sort of sinus thing that popped up yesterday. Lots of sinus draining and coughing, which hurts my chest. Loading up with a few OTC medicines and going to be early tonight.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thought I would share a couple of pictures of my adorable granddaughter Lilly. She's a real chunky monkey but oh, so cute.</div>

Whenever I have vacation time burning a hole in my pocket I love to travel. I learned of a website that helps you plan hotels, attractions, and food stops along the route. It's called <a href="http://www.roadtrippers.com/">www.roadtrippers.com</a> and it looks pretty sweet. How often do you find yourself in a place where you don't know where to stay, what to do, or where to eat?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can choose from several categories to populate your map and where they exist, there will be ratings for the spot, too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I think I'll be adding this site to my Favorites list on the right side of my blog for future use.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's a screen shot of my local area and a handful of the helpful things that could be found.</div>

Last Sunday I treated my daughter and grandson to Sesame Street Live at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. First problem was I <i>thought</i> it was at the Fisher Theater. We paid to park, hurried into the Fisher Theater and snapped several pictures of the wonderful architecture. As we neared the theater entrance it was quite apparent we were at the wrong theater!! Yikes!!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We hurried back to the car and made our way to the correct theater. As we approached the parking structure a very nice man guided us to the perfect parking spot, close to the theater. This was very helpful considering Denver's short legs and my poor running ability.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Once inside the magnificent theater we headed to the restroom, passing loads of kids with plastic Elmo spinny-light up toys. Of course I had to buy one for Denver. He was mesmerized.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The show was wonderful and our seats in row D afforded us a visit by several of the show's characters.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
It was such a fun afternoon. Denver was asleep by the time we exited the parking structure!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I was never able to take my kids to such a show when they were young -- no money for things like that and their dad would never agree to such an a 'extravagance'. Now that I'm a grandma I won't hesitate to give my grandkids a fun time like this. Looking forward to our next adventure!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have to say though, that there was one very strange incident. A couple of women and their kids arrived about 30 minutes late and took their seats adjacent to me. Not 2 minutes after they sat down the woman next to me sniffed her infant's bottom and proceeded to change his diaper ON HER LAP. EGADS -- why in the world would anyone do such a thing in a fine theater with loads of people nearby???</div>

Mystery Quilt Day was last Saturday and I managed to sew the top and backing in one day (record for me possibly?!) for a quilt for a special soon-to-be 1 year old. His father is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, hence the Volunteers fabric, picked up last April on my way back from their home in Atlanta. Don't spill the beans!<br />

I used a <a href="http://www.weeksdyeworks.com/index.php">Weeks Dye Works</a> variegated 40 wt thread in the bobbin and <a href="http://www.bobbincentral.com/quilting/top-thread/glide.html">Glide 40 wt</a> Cream thread in the top. Had to keep re-filling the bobbin, argh, but glad to finally have a project I could use this thread for. I think I've had it for about 10+ years, still in the original wrapper. Sheesh! I used <a href="http://www.superiorthreads.com/product/brand/masterpiece/">MasterPiece</a> 50 wt in orange to sew the binding on. It's a bit brighter that the binding but I'm ok with that.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I pieced this quilt using my <a href="http://www.juki.co.jp/household_en/hsm/hzlf600.html">Juki F600</a>, aka Hazel, and quilted it using my <a href="http://www.jukihome.com/products/quilt_tl2010q.html">Juki 2010Q</a>, aka Queenie. Hazel is a dream to piece with and Queenie does a fabulous job quilting. I serged the edges using my <a href="http://www.juki.co.jp/household_en/serger/mo1000.html">Juki MO-1000</a> serger before adding the binding. I sewed the binding on using Hazel and used foot D, the stitch in the ditch foot, to sew the back of the binding down from the front side. It is soooo much faster for me to do it this way compared to hand sewing the binding to the backside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And for the most part, you never see the stitches on the front edge of the binding. Sweet!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I think I'll make a pillowcase from the remaining pieces of the quilt fabric. I want to use it up and move on to the next quilt! I'll be mailing these out to Owen after the first of the month. Woohoo -- done ahead of time!!! Such a good feeling.</div>

It really is. This morning I was thinking about how good life is. I've had plenty of times where I thought I really couldn't go on but I have. How did I get to be so strong? Maybe it's genetic -- my grandmother and my mother were both very strong women.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I was thinking about it this morning, way too deeply I might add for 8 am, I realized that even the bad times really have made me stronger. Do I wish I had never had the bad times? Sure. But in the end it has been these rotten experiences that have made me appreciate what I have and who I know. More importantly, though, it has been who I choose to love.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Life really is good. I can't imagine life without my sisters, my kids, my grandkids and my friends. Each one of them makes me richer beyond Bill Gates.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For good measure, I did buy a few Powerball tickets for tonight's drawing. Oh think of the sewing studio I could have.......</div>

I can finally reveal my covert sewing operation:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguJEppTv-ck55WxS_3MOXB5Dd-HleEFt-IFWhNJyexAOd4U8aAADdt8DHgVcRu_Ka3HFdC8VsIrKcBNvAF8f52-B90SJTkXQefc6XqhTvhBF3BRbB9p4IaG1OTw1RBfF-SxFwyELau9Xp0/s1600/0131151930.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguJEppTv-ck55WxS_3MOXB5Dd-HleEFt-IFWhNJyexAOd4U8aAADdt8DHgVcRu_Ka3HFdC8VsIrKcBNvAF8f52-B90SJTkXQefc6XqhTvhBF3BRbB9p4IaG1OTw1RBfF-SxFwyELau9Xp0/s1600/0131151930.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The pattern is called Falling Charms from Missouri Star Quilting Company. I used two charm packs of Persimmon from Moda, off-white Grunge, and Downton Abbey fabric for the border and backing, all purchased at Bittersweet Quilt Shop in Pinconning, MI. I arranged the colors going from dark to light, though it's a bit hard to tell from these photos taken on my cell phone by my sister Carol. I quilted the 70" x 70" throw on my Juki 2010Q after piecing it on my Juki F600. Once done I serged it using my Juki MO-1000, and bound it using the grunge fabric. Can you tell I adore Juki products????!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I gave Renee the quilt tonight following a large family dinner at Big Boy -- very fun time. While the pattern name is Falling Charms, I told Renee I call it 'Out of the Darkness' -- which is the mantra for Suicide Prevention. This is the first birthday for Renee without her son Paul, who committed suicide last June. She's also the first sister to have a birthday without our Mom, who died in October. It was good to have so many family members attend her party -- we took over the restaurant and sang Happy Birthday to her -- so fun!</div>

I've been sewing my little heart out, working on a stealth project. No peeking just yet, but soon my pretty, very soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've got to get my quilts ready for the <a href="http://www.glhq.org/quilt_show.html">GLHQ Quilt Show</a>, just 6 weeks away! I want to enter four quilts but I've got to get them photographed to enter them. I might have to haul them into the office to get a tall guy to hold them up for me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And speaking of the office, big drama last week. Things had gotten so bad between my co-worker Debbie and our boss in North Carolina that she had been offered a new job and accepted. She told the VP in our office who knew if she left I'd be right behind her. They'd be left with no quality assurance analysts and that would put them in a really bad spot. So he went to bat for us, convincing all the powers that be that the management of the QA team should be done here in Michigan and miracle of miracles it worked. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Debbie had to turn down the offer at the new company and today was our first day with no micromanaging, no relentless banter, no angst. It felt really good. Late in the day I heard from a recruiter about a position I had posted for last week. It sounds like a great opportunity but I feel like I have to give the new changes at my current employer a chance to succeed. I told the recruiter I'd be in touch if it doesn't!</div>
